Q-ED Innovations
Education innovation, advisory and institution building.
Q-ED Innovations is my advisory and innovation practice. It is the vehicle through which I work with universities, education providers, boards and ventures on the questions that now sit at the centre of the sector: what education is for, how institutions should be built, and how human judgement and machine intelligence should work together.
The work draws on more than two decades of building education from the inside: as an Executive Dean and Pro Vice-Chancellor in UK universities, as founding leadership in new institutions in Europe and the United States, and as a founder and executive in education technology.
What I work on
Institutional and AI strategy
What an AI-infused world means for a specific institution: its academic model, its portfolio, its assessment, and the capabilities it develops in its students.
New institutions and ventures
Designing and building education institutions and ventures from first principles, including business models, regulatory footing and market entry.
Boards and governance
Non-executive and advisory roles, with particular interest in new and specialist providers building robust governance as they grow.
Academic and learning models
Curriculum, qualification design, authentic assessment and workforce-aligned learning.
How engagements work
I take on a small number of engagements each year, working directly mostly and occasionally with a few associates. Most begin with a conversation about the problem rather than a proposal about the solution. If that intersects with what you are building, I would welcome the conversation.
